Wood St. Collective invited children's book author Patricia Domínguez, based in Pilsen, to host a bilingual workshop at Brighton Park Elementary School. We donated two classroom sets of books, so that all kids have summer reading materials!

The students also wrote out book reports that compare their experiences with the author.  Our mission is to inspire youth to read and write creatively, and as a Chicago-raised author, Patricia is an exemplary role model!

Like much of the South Side, Greater Grand Crossing is a neighborhood that has fewer parkers, less green space, and a greater industrial footprint.

To mitigate "pollution hotspots," Wood St. Collective is helping plant trees --critical green infrastructure-- that clean the air, remove CO2, provide shade, and literally lower the temperature.

2024 Holiday Children's Book Drive
​In June 2025, we are hosting the First Annual Summer Englewood Book Fest that includes a book vendor market of children’s books authors, Chicago-based authors, and independent bookstores; and a programming stage will offer a robust schedule of panel author discussions, poetry readings, and children’s programming. SEBF is more than just a one-day event. Leading up to the Book Fest, we will invite Chicago-based children’s book authors to visit 3rd and 6th grade classrooms in Englewood elementaries for an engaging workshop designed to encourage reading and, in the 6th grade classes, support students in writing a fiction story.

The Plant 1,000 Trees Campaign officially begins at George Washington Highschool where Wood St Collective acquired over 35 Chestnut saplings from their school's fruit and nut tree nursery.  CPS teachers and students collaborate on growing shade and fruit trees for distribution to local residents, which improves the local air quality and acts as a carbon sink. Future collaborations to come!
