More green spaces and access to healthy foods are two demands that Wood St. Collective recognizes as important to the community’s welfare.
In a tradition of mutual aid, we believe community organizing and the neighborhood market model – a restorative and unifying, rather than merely consumer, process–may effectively address food deserts, or rather food apartheid. Our goal is to build vital and resilient means of providing healthy foods to our Chicago neighbors.
Dedicated to uplifting the vision of a beautiful and peaceful South Side, we mobilize people with flower power. The resident-led garden network produces food for local sale at our Neighborhood Market. Our Block Beauty projects transform lawns, build backyard gardens, and set up DIY hydroponic systems. Our staff of experienced Chicago gardeners work with volunteers and residents to create spaces so green that they look like a food forests.
