Wood St. Collective Urban Farm
6234 S. Wolcott Ave.
In 2024, Wood St. Collective is opening our business residence in West Englewood, Chicago at 6234 S. Wolcott Ave. Thanks to funding from the City of Chicago Community Growers Fund and Chicago Region Food System Fund, we plan to open a half-acre urban farm, growing USDA Organic, local produce and providing Chicagoans with an alternative to processed foods.
Urban GreenhouseThe commercial-size greenhouse at the Wood St. Collective urban farm will be our flagship growing area, intended to cultivate thousands of pounds of food annually. Since our organization's ultimate goal is justice and food security, we aim to raise awareness about farm to table practices, distribute seedlings and fresh produce to the community, and promote environmental care and stewardship.

Farm to Community Kitchen
Complete with commercial food processing equipment, Wood St. Collective plans to cut the ribbon on a free-to-access facility, similar to Garfield Park Community Council’s The Hatchery, where food entrepreneurs can start their own catering business, artisan food brand, student breakfast & after-school meal program, or other entrepreneurial idea.
This “Farm to Community” Kitchen will allow innovation of a new business model, sourcing Englewood-grown vegetables and produce and creating value-added products to market and distribute. Possibilities include: freely offered 300 fruit cups and tatertots every Wednesday for a local school. Or a high-end, plant-based nutrition supplement to sell online or in local retail. Our facility will be open to “community entrepreneurs” who can use the shared space to realize their ambitions. |
Outdoor PavilionOutdoor community programming area expected to host open mics, school supply and toy distributions, networking events, birthdays, summer celebrations, and, of course, vendor markets and produce stands. Our monthly Family Garden Days will find a new home at the proposed pavilion. This construction of pavilion, coupled with a robust urban farm, is a footprint in the path toward eliminating food deserts.
The plans include native flower, pollinator, and prairie vegetation surrounding the concrete pavilion. |
Fruit and Nut Tree Orchard
In Spring 2025, we are completing the site with an Urban Food Tree Orchard, featuring over 45 fruit and nut trees including apples, pears, peaches, cherries, persimmons, chestnuts, figs, paw paws, and more!
This Orchard will serve as an educational space for Chicagoans to learn about food forestry, tree plantings, and tree care. |
